SQ3R Workshop

The third step in SQ3R is to Read. The primary task during the Reading phase of your study is to:

- Find answers to the questions on your note cards as you read, note the answers on the 3x5 card for later study

- Group words together as you read to find the meaning of phrases. You will eventually understand increasingly larger groups of words and reading will become easier.

Example: (It is easier) (to focus on) (groups of words) (than one word) (at a time)

    - Focus on the main idea of chapter sections, instead of small details

    - Break reading assignments into smaller portions (for example read a section of a chapter at a time) to allow for easier learning and better retention

    - Make note cards with the main ideas of the chapter- they are great for quick study
